Hawkwood Facility Update - April 2008
The
Hawkwood Facility Committee was revived in late 2007. The current members
are: Scott Boulanger (Chair), Steve Coulter, Tricia Davis, Trevor Hughes, Kevan
Newman, Lawrence Tofteland and Barry Ursulak with Amanda Turvey representing
the City of Calgary.
The
Committee has recommended to the HCA Board of Directors that the community
retain Community Development Consultants (“CDC”) to assist Hawkwood in
developing a business plan. This plan will ultimately lead to the
construction of a community facility on Hawkstone Field focused on the outdoor
recreational needs of the residents of Hawkwood. The project is expected
to be phased in over a 2 to 3 year period and will utilize the funds generated
by the community from its casino monies.
This is a
fantastic opportunity for the community to build something that the
neighborhood can be extremely proud of and enjoy year-round. The focus
will primarily be on families and outdoor recreation, but we will try and
incorporate as much of the communities needs and preferences as possible.
Sustainability
will also be a priority, as whatever we construct will be able to be enjoyed in
perpetuity without incurring any debt. We have before us the possibility
of delivering something unique and special to the residents of Hawkwood that
will facilitate programs and activities and enhance our quality of life.
Keeping ourselves active and giving something for our children to do will
foster a better community, and I encourage you to support this project.
