Calgary Northwest Recreation Centre Society Partners with the City of Calgary

Season’s greetings everyone!

As the end of the year quickly approaches and everyone is scrambling to secure venues for their year end celebrations, just think, in a few years, you’ll have access to the new Calgary Northwest Recreation Center as another option to host your parties.

The CNRCS achieved a major milestone in November as the society was officially named the community advisory group (CAG) by the City of Calgary. As the CAG, we are responsible to rally residents, organized sports groups, and recreation/cultural groups to define the features of the future facility.

On Nov.5, 2008 the CNRCS held the first committee meeting to present our immediate objectives and action plan.  The entire presentation can be viewed at www.cnrcs.ca.

To act as an effective CAG, we have recruited volunteers to sit on committees to carry out the work. Six committees have been formed:

  • Communications
  • Community Engagement:
  • Design
  • Fundraising
  • Governance & Organization
  • Partnerships & Stakeholders

More details about each committee can be found at www.cnrcs.ca.

Upcoming Event: Open House #2

On December 9, 2008 from 6:00 – 10:00 PM, an Open House will be hosted jointly by The City of Calgary and CNRCS at the 4 Points Sheraton (2359 Banff Trail NW 8220 Bowridge Cr.)  (Paid by The City of Calgary.)  The City conducted a needs assessment study that polled NW residents on what they’d like to see in the facility and how the facility should be operated.  The results of this study will be available at this event.  THIS IS AN IMPORTANT OPEN HOUSE!

Your attendance is critical. This Open House will be your opportunity to review the report and provide feedback to The City on whether you agree with the report’s findings.  Event details can be found at www.cnrcs.ca or contact us at cnrcs.info@gmail.com to be added to our update distribution list.  In addition, The City of Calgary will be posting road signs in your community.

The CNRCS volunteer team looks forward to seeing you at the Dec.9 Open House and would like to wish all of you Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
